Context, Collections, and Pets: The Key Ideas Behind This House Design

This house was designed with three important ideas in mind: the location, the owner’s collections, and their pets.

Let’s start with the location. It’s a very special spot—right in the middle of a housing development that has a beautiful lake at its center. The clear blue water reflects the golden light of the evening sun, and this peaceful scene really stood out to us the first time we visited. It made us almost forget we were in a typical neighborhood in Nakhon Sawan. Because of this, we wanted to make the most of the view and the calm atmosphere when designing the house.

At the same time, the land is surrounded by many other houses, since it’s in the heart of the village. That’s why we aimed to design a home that feels humble and fits in well with the neighbors. To do this, we lowered the first floor below street level so that only the second floor is visible from the outside. From the street, the house looks like a small, one-story home.

Another important part of the design is the owner’s car collection, which is valuable and meaningful to them. We wanted to keep this collection private, so we designed a garage that’s also below street level. This way, people passing by can’t see it, and it’s hard to guess how big the house really is from the outside.

The overall layout was designed to match the daily lifestyle of both homeowners. We made sure the spaces inside the house connect well and work for many different situations—whether it’s a formal event or a quiet day with family. The design also carefully separates public and private spaces, making sure the owners feel comfortable both inside and out.

And finally, pets were a big part of this project. We took time to understand what kinds of animals the owners have and what they need. This helped us create a smart, practical setup to care for all the pets in the best way possible.

With a unique location and such interesting things happening in the owners’ lives, we believe this home will become something very special in Nakhon Sawan.
